Access

An eviction notice arrives with a clock inside it, and most of the people it arrives for will never speak to a lawyer before it runs out.

There are two kinds of help with that, and the law draws a hard line between them. One kind fills in the forms you tell it to fill. The other kind looks at your facts and says which defenses fit them. The first is clerical work, and Recourse next door does it well. The second is the practice of law, and no self-serve tool is allowed to do it for you.

Access is the second kind, done the only way it can honestly be done: a nonprofit desk working under a live California supervising attorney. The desk reviews your situation, identifies the defenses that may apply, and prepares your Answer in time to file it. A lawyer stands behind every answer, which is the entire point of the arrangement.

One thing said plainly, because the desk itself says it plainly: the desk is set, and not yet seated. Counsel review is under way, and until it finishes, everything Access shows runs on synthetic facts, marked as demonstration. The shop hangs the piece anyway. A thing built this carefully about its own limits is worth looking at before it opens.
