The Unicorn Factory

A midway with one game on it, and the game is the honest kind.

Step up and say the thing that has been bothering you. Anything at all: the insurance denial, the drowning caregiver, the loan servicer that keeps changing the rules. The machine builds a venture out of it, a real one, and then the house makes you the carnival's oldest offer: win it off us.

Six booths. Each one you clear takes another veil off the animal, and clearing costs nothing; only missing costs, and each miss costs double the last, which is entirely a you problem. The first booth is on the house, no card, no account. Every booth publishes how many people clear it, and you can stop whenever you like and keep what has been revealed.

Twenty ventures come off the line and nineteen die on the board. That is not the game being cruel; that is the game being right, cheaply, before the venture spends a year of your life finding it out the expensive way. Nobody gets handed a unicorn. That is the whole point of the place, and the reason the shop hangs it in the window.
